Joel A. Hesch is a PhD candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. His research advisor is Professor Stergios I. Roumeliotis, who directs the Multiple Autonomous Robotic Systems (MARS) Laboratory, which he has been a member of since 2005. His research interests include localization and navigation of autonomous vehicles, sensor fusion, indoor human tracking and guidance, and human robot interaction. In his interdisciplinary research endeavors, he is co-advised by Professor Gordon E. Legge who heads the Minnesota Laboratory for Low-Vision Research. J. A. Hesch has been awarded the 2011 UMN Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship. In 2010 he was selected as a Honeywell International Innovator Scholar. He is also the recipient of the NIH Neuro-physical-computational Sciences Training Fellowship (2007 - 2009) in Computational Neuroscience.
